ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Sweeping law changes? Fucking stupid!

First of all, why are you lumping all of these together into one bill? They address vastly different issues of which many need to be scrutinised in detail before such rash changes! Honestly, does dealing out stiffer penalties across the board solve any issues? Does it help to address underlying root causes? Does it improve the country's condition? No.

Decriminalising suicides. Okay that makes some sense. Why are you going to punish someone who was already going to end their life anyway? Either you give them therapy and support, or you let them go. Punishing them because they failed their attempt makes no sense. So yeah, that's fine by me.

Protection for Children, Elderly, and Disabled. Check. No issues with that. But again, they need to be more careful with the part about trying to create "new offenses" for "minors" between age 16 and 18. Honestly, they are of consensual age. Let them do what they want bro.

And then it starts to go downhill from here.

Putting a halt to Stealthing? Repeal marital rape immunity? What are you joking? Talk about nanny state to want to control everything about your life, including what happens in the bedroom. So any crazy woman can now claim rape regardless of what actually happened? And hey, I thought we were experiencing declining birth rates? Oh no, let's just forget about that! I can bet my 100 bucks that many a child was born due to the so called "Stealthing" or whatever fancy term you want to give it. It possibly also leads to shot-gun marriages which is a possible way to start a family.

I always thought we wanted more babies, not less.

Last part is called, get this, "Tackling Emerging Crimes". Oh, let's phrase it in a way that makes the problem sound new, so we don't sound outdated. This part is really iffy because they are actually treating it as a crime, and not a mental disorder. There are much deeper issues at hand, and the "offenders" have often suffered a lot through life, which lead them to do such acts. Does punishing them solve the issue? NO!

Furthermore, I can get into a rant about the whole thing. But my point is, what harm and damage have they cause that warrants such harsh sentences? Oh, I took some pictures and videos, and now I end up in jail for 2 years? How absurd does that sound? What did the poor soul do to deserve that? Ridiculous! Put them on some therapy and social training programs and help reshape their lives so that we have more healthy and functioning people to continue contributing to the workforce!

It gets even more ridiculous from there. Revenge porn and "Cyber Flashing" are also going to be punishable with jail sentences? You know how to prevent revenge porn? Stop being a THOT and recording your sexual acts! Simple as that. If you did it, then you are prepared for the consequences. The last one is a joke. So, sending nudes is now a crime? Isn't that the whole point of Snapchat? LOL. Best way to put a company out of business. Again, what damage does the so called "Cyber Flashing" cause? If anything, it's more humiliating for the sender than the receiver?

And, I could rant on and on and on. But I'll end it here as it's pretty pointless seeing where this country is going. Best for me to leave at the next opportunity I get. My overall summary of opinion, is that they lumped too many things together. Protection of the weak and suicidal are generally good ones. But the latter parts fail to address our concerns of a declining population. Sometimes, we gotta let frisky acts fly to get those babies coming. Lastly, as someone who understands, I can say that voyeuristic acts rarely arise out of malicious intent. There ARE deeper underlying mental and emotional issues that affect these people. By sending them to jail, we are destroying their careers and losing important and valuable manpower and future fathers. If we could only send help to them, reform them, put them back on the right path, society would surely benefit.

Incredible Story

WOW. The last time I posted here was 2016? Seems like ages ago.

Anyway for today, I would like to tell you a fantastical story, so bear with me. It is basically the life story of a friend. We were chatting for super long after lunch, that she basically shared her entire life story with me. I love her so much that I want to document it here so that I do not forget it in future. Even though she has a boyfriend already, and we can't be together, I can always hope she breaks up with him some day. You never know. So here's Fei's story!

Basically she was born into a broken or dysfunctional family. Her mom is Thai, and her dad is mainland Chinese. She didn't quite reveal it, but I guess she was born out of wedlock, as her dad was previously a teacher and her mom was a student. Didn't want to probe too deeply on this sensitive issue. Her family started out poor as they lived in a shared home with other families when she was really small. That was until they bought their own first small apartment when her dad started his business. But then, her dad got a little frisky and had a few women around, leading to her mom being emotional and crying all the time. They rarely talked to each other, and her mom just likes to read her books. Fei had to be the independent girl that helped to keep the family together.

Soon after, her dad had business troubles, complications and perhaps running away from tax officials, etc. China. But meanwhile all this time, her mom stayed with him and supported him all the way. This lead him to finally believe which woman was there for him and I guess he finally started to appreciate her more. Things patched up well. Up to this day, they get along, however it would seem that the 3 of them still like to do their own things, even when they are together. Seems like a very individualistic and independent family environment. But enough about the complicated family situation. Back to the lovely girl in question.

At the age of 10, she decided that she wanted to go overseas to study. At that time, she was really into Harry Potter. The movies, and the books. And UK was where it was all filmed and shot, so the allure to the 10 year old kid was strong. It was decided then, that she went to a boarding school somewhere in Milton Keynes. Incidentally, this is near enough to Cranfield, which is where my dad went to study for his Masters. He brought our whole family along, and I stayed there for 2 years. Of course, at that time I was 5 and Fei was not born yet. But back to the topic, this is not about me. So, she would stay abroad and study there all by herself, and occasionally during holidays she would travel to parts of europe to meet up with her mom, who incidentally is a travel enthusiast. Her mom basically travels around the world, and writes reviews and articles about various spots, food places, and attractions. Fun job.

So what happens next is that Fei finished her high school and all, but didn't exactly get top results. She had interests in arts, but wanted to go to a proper university rather than an arts school. She likes design but wasn't the best at it either. So after looking around the different courses she decided on Computing. At that time, it wasn't a popular major, so even without meeting grades, she got into a university just by calling in. Cool. She made friends and all, but it seems that all her friends left the UK too after graduation, leaving her not much reason to stay anymore. Next, she set her eyes on another degree. She went to Australia to study for a year, but decided she really didn't like the place at all. The shops close early, and there were snakes and insects everywhere, lol. In her time that she was studying in Australia, she actually did work and also did an exchange program. This is where things get more "interesting".

So she did an exchange program with NTU in Singapore, met good people, and apparently really liked the place. I guess, sadly, that she probably met her boyfriend here as well. Unfortunate for me, but oh well. So end up, she pulled out of her degree program in Australia to stay here instead. And they actually still offered her some form of diploma for that. lol. But more interesting than that, is that the company she worked for, HP, really liked her so much that they offered her a job position in the Singapore office. No interviews, nothing, just phone call and go. They even sponsored half of her accommodation rent. That's quite a sick deal. So this is the crazy part. She was actually working for quite some time with HP at the Depot Road office, which is just across the road from my old office building. In fact, it could be that we may have crossed paths as strangers before, but didn't know that we would one day be friends. I mean, that's crazy right?!

Next, after all the people on her team starts leaving, she too saw no reason to stay in such a hectic environment, and she quit HP as well. It would seem, that she did some Minor in Technopreneurship thing at NTU, over the summer period before our matriculation. Finally, she would start studying in our Masters course, and I would meet her for the first time. It was a strange encounter. I mean, it was very early in the morning and I was heading for SPM class when I saw this pretty girl in front of me. She didn't look super local, but also didn't have the mainland chinese look. Certainly I didn't think she would be taking such a technical program like me. But little did I know, we ended up walking to the same room. So, I sat at the desk behind her, and hoped to get to know her someday.

Bam! Our prof Alton says we should start forming groups of 3 for our project. She turns around and asks "do you have a project group?", and the rest is history. I am so glad that I got to meet with and befriends with this pretty girl, Xue Fei. While it is unfortunate that we will likely never be together, I don't regret anything, and am always willing to lend a listening ear. I would do the same for any of my friends. If you have something to say, I will listen. I'll be there for you. Well, nothing much left for me to say, except that it was quite an inspirational story, I feel. And I would have very much liked to be the next chapter in the story, but alas it was not meant to be...

My Perfect Dream ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

Today, I had a really nice dream. So nice, that I refused to wake up. Wanted to continue sleeping. Sleep until 3:45pm. But no choice, I'm back in this sucky world. So, I just want to post what I had dreamt here, though I may not have all the specifics.

The gist of it, is love.

The specifics aren't clear, but there is this really hot girl from my school who also lives in SengKang, though I dunno which area. Somehow someday, I saw her crossing the road from Compass Point to my home. I somehow muster the courage to go hit on her, and miraculously she accepted to be my girlfriend. Great!

And then somehow (a lot of somehows coz it's a dream), I realized that she stayed in the same block as me, just upstairs. Next thing I know, a few days past and we get along well. Then it was her birthday. For some reason, I decided to bring my parents to go upstairs to her house, to meet her parents.

Upon reaching their house, we sit down and chit-chat with her parents. At this point, she just woke up and needed to prepare herself before meeting me. Presumably we were going out or something. Then, her parents apparently pass me a plastic bag with an SAF green army water bottle in it. Puzzled, I took out the bottle and saw lots of nice cute drawings on it done with a black marker. It even had Kirito and Asuna from SAO. Nice!

The parents said that she really like me, and wanted to give that to me as a gift. How sweet. Suddenly, I realized that I had forgotten to buy her a birthday gift! Oh no! So, I quickly start thinking planning what I should buy... But the rest of the dream is kinda fuzzy... :(

After that, my real folks in the real world are trying desperately to wake me up. Shouting at me and making so much noise. Yep, I am back to shit land. Out of my perfect fantasy realm, cast into a world barren of love. I guess such is my life. A life of sadness and loneliness...

The girl I am talking about, is Jacqueline Chua. Also from NUS Computing. We have quite a few mutual friends, but have never spoken to each other before. Despite not knowing her so well, I find myself strangely attracted to her. Despite the slightly funny shaped face, she is really attractive to me. I would like to know her, if fate permits.

Though, it's quite unlikely now that I've graduated...

Lackluster

Just had another random emo thought recently, bear with me.

Personally, I feel like local girls here have more or less lost their unique appeal. I mean, talking from a business standpoint, everything should have a differentiator, a unique selling point. Right?

What USP do our girls have? Uniquely Singapore? LOL

Following that vein of thought, I can see why a lot of people are raving over K-Pop and J-Pop, and getting more interested Japanese and Korean cultures. I mean, that's just it right? Their different from us.

Koreans look really great, albeit sometimes with surgery. But that in a sense is their USP already. In general, they are much better in the looks department.

For Japanese, it's really all about their deep and rich culture right? They have pretty girls, but I think people still slightly favor the Koreans in that aspect. Their main differentiator here is that they are very much more polite, sincere, humble, respectful, kind and caring.

And that's really a big deal in my opinion. So that's it! That's why I love the Japanese so much! :P

They are awesome.

Guess What?

I met Cally today!

Totally haven't seen her in ages! Since first semester. Actually, one or twice since then. But still, it's been pretty long. Reason being she has transfered to a different course from me, so totally taking different modules. Just remembered how short she was. Haha.

We both happened to be taking the bus to exams. Except to different locations. Talk quite a bit on the bus. Kind of surprised that we managed to talk normally. I was once expecting something to happen between us. LOL. Guess we're just good friends from orientation then.

Nothing much to blog about. Life will be boring till I officially start my work for this holiday. What I'm doing now is just studying for exams. Hopefully I don't screw up. I really need those results to make up for my lack of a social life. If you don't have one, you gotta have the other right?

Oh well..... :-|
